Trained as a pattern maker before becoming a designer, Wei Wei Hu has spent over forty years inside bridal ateliers and formalwear houses — drafting patterns from scratch for silhouettes that didn't exist until a client described them.
Today Wei works as a bridal couturier, tailor and dressmaker from a private studio in Sydney, NSW. Every commission is handled personally, from first measurement to final press — no assistants cutting, no pieces sent out.

This is the most common reason clients arrive. Bring a reference photo, a description, or a detail you loved on something else — Wei drafts a pattern from scratch to make it. Nothing here is chosen from a range.
Bridal gowns need six to nine months from first consultation; mother-of-the-bride and formalwear three to four months; tailoring six to ten weeks; alterations one to three weeks. Earlier is always better — it leaves room for fabric sourcing and unhurried fittings.
An unhurried conversation in the Sydney studio about the occasion, silhouette, fabric, budget and timeline. Wei takes a full set of measurements. You leave knowing what will be made, how long it will take, and what it will cost.
Every piece is quoted individually after the consultation, because cost is driven by construction hours and fabric — not a size or style number. You receive a firm quote before work begins, and it does not move unless the design changes.
No. Most clients are guided through sourcing — Wei advises on the weight, drape and quality the design requires. If you already have fabric or an heirloom length, bring it along.
Two to four for most garments, more for a structured bridal gown. Bridal and formal pieces begin with a toile — a calico mock-up fitted before your real fabric is cut.
Yes, and it is a specialty. Mothers' and grandmothers' gowns are reconstructed to fit a new body and silhouette, keeping the original fabric intact wherever possible.
Yes. Fully canvassed suiting, dinner jackets, groom and groomsmen tailoring, and formal shirting are all made to measure.
Expected, and planned for. Fittings are scheduled close to the date, garments are built with adjustment allowance, and minor adjustments in the final weeks are included.
Yes — tight timelines can usually be accommodated. Mention your date in your enquiry and Wei will confirm what can be made in time. A rush piece may carry an additional charge depending on complexity, quoted upfront.
